Carolina Mill

George W. Swepson bought this mill site from Joseph Trollinger in 1865 and resold it to the Holts in 1866 (DB 3, pg 468, 502). The Holts and John Q. Gant built the cotton mill in 1869 (Hughes 1965). Swain (1899) described the dam as wood with stone abutments, 200 feet long and six feet high. The mill was expanded in 1904 (Gleaner 8/25/1904). By 1950 the dam had been long destroyed (Ken Cates), although the abutments are intact.
