Iola Mill

Anthony Cable sold a mill here to Jacob Summers in 1803 (ODB 13, pg 121). J A Mccauley bought “Summer’s old sawmill” in 1881 to build a dam for Iola Mill (ADB 8, pg 245; ADB 9, pg 190). The deeds seem to indicate that it was to be a cotton mill, although no evidence was found of it being a cotton mill. The mill is shown by Spoon (1893) on the right bank. Mccauley’s estate sold the mill to John Q. Gant in 1897 (ADB 19, pg 190).
