Upstream:Pickard Mill

Lloyd Mill

This mill was located about 1/2 mile north of where NC 54 highway crosses Morgan Creek just west of Carrboro. The last remnants of the former mill dam are still standing and the abandoned mill race is definitely discernible along the west bank.

This mill may have been the Calvin W Lloyd mill which is mentioned in the 1880 Manufacturing Census for Orange County. The census indicates taht the Lloyd Mill was on Morgan Creek but does not give any furhter information about the location. I found a deed conveying the Lloyd Mill from Chesley P. Lloyd to Calvin W. Lloyd (Orange DB 44, pg 446), but it does not give adequate landmarks to further identify the location.

For now, I am assuming that the Lloyd mill was at this location 1/2 mile north of NC-54.
