Possible Former Mill Dam

Downstream:Galbraith Mill

This was observed on aerial photos on the Alamance County website just north of US-70. About half a mile above this site is the Quaker Creek Reservoir Dam built about 1990.

Orange Court minutes for August 1778 record permission for James Hutchison to build a gristmill on back creek, possibly at this site? However the minutes for Feb 1784 granted permission for John and Margaret Hutchison's gristmill on Quaker Creek to be public. Perhaps both of these refer to the same mill. If so, then the Hutchison mill may have been the Dickey Mill just above here on Quaker Creek. Or perhaps different members of the Hutchison family built both mills.
