Upriver:Brown's Mill

Taylor-Henley Mill

Mentioned in the 1880 Agricultural Census, the dam was 3.5 feet tall, extending 500 feet from the right bank to an island. The dam was built in the mid 1870’s according to Swain (1899), but it is shown by Ramsey (1870). Repairs were made to a bridge at Henley’s Mill in 1879 (Chatham Record 1/10/1884). Out of use in 1899, the site sold from Stephen Henley to W L London, probably by foreclosure (Chatham DB CA, pg 19). Walking up from US 64 on the right bank, the former millrace is evident.
